They also sell sims that lets you use your own GSM phone, although it’s services are popular, there are some difficulties associated with Straight Talk, especially in the area of Internet connection which include MMS and Data. It uses AT&T SIMs or T-mobile SIM cards, although any unlocked phone with the proper bands can work
it’s advised that you use approved phones as you’ll get all the benefits.
Straight Talk along with Net10 are probably one the best cost effective service you can get on mobile, yet despite that they have some drawbacks, this drawbacks are spot on disadvantages of using
Straight Talk.

For one you don’t get full support, and most of the settings required for your smartphone to work are done manually. Again the internet data are not really unlimited as stated by them, they have a limit, when that limit is reached the third business like factor will kick in.

Straight Talk APN configurations for MMS & Internet

There are two ways to configure your phone, they are,
Automatic and Manual.
Automatic Straight Talk recently updated their websites, and opened a portal that’s supposed to push the settings to your Android device.

This is done by going to their website at Talk, you then need to key in your phone number or ID to get the settings or instructions. Follow the instructions and your Android phone is as good as set up. For majority of Android phones the APN generated by them will work. But incase it didn’t work then try the Manual ones below.

Manual Settings
First make sure your SIM card is active by doing a test call, if it isns’t set it up here straighttalksim.com or call their number. After it’s active, here is the proper APN settings for to use.
On your Android, just go to Settings > Wireless Connections > More > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names (APN).

Proxy: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
Port: (Leave in Blank)
Username: (Leave Blank)
Password: (Leave Blank)
Server: (Leave Blank)

APN type: default,supl,mms
APN Protocol: Leave it to the Default one
This Settings has been recently tested (2013/2014) on the following phones
Nexus, Samsung Galaxy S4 Four, 3, 2 and 1, HTC, Tecno and other Android devices. And as such it’s the best Manual Straight Talk APN settings you can find.
